Immunizations for 6th Graders

Effective July 1, 2008, Act 152 and 342 requires that beginning with the 2009-2010 school year and continuing thereafter, a student shall provide satisfactory evidence of current immunizations against meningococcal disease and any other age appropriate vaccine as a condition of entry into the sixth grade.  Further, any student who has attained the age of eleven years or who is entering a grade other than grade six shall provide satisfactory evidence of current immunizations against meningococcal disease and any other age appropriate vaccine as a condition of entry into that grade.  This requirement also affects susceptible individuals through 18 years of age who are enrolled in any Louisiana school.

At the time of registration, students must show proof of immunization of the following vaccines:

  • Tetanus Diphtheria Acellular Pertussis vaccine (Tdap)
  • (2) dosesof Varicella
  • (2) Measles-Mumps_Rubella (MMR)
  • (3) Hepatitis B (HBV)
  • (1) Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV-4)

The Care Center offers mental health counseling with Master Level Psychiatrists.  They are working with local government, chruches and school districts to set up a long term outreach center.  The center is trying to include representatives from non-profits, Social Services and Department of Labor.  They are in the process of trying to set up a one stop center within the parish so that residents do not have to travel long distances.  The first center will open July 20th and will be located at Buras High School.

FALL REGISTRATION DATES

Plaquemines Parish School District will register new students for Pre-K through twelfth grade for the 2010-2011 school year.  Registration hours are between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at individual schools.  A student must be registered at the school he/she will attend for the 2010-2011 school year.  Pre-kindergarten students must be 4 years old on or before September 30, 2010.  Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before September 30, 2010.  First grade students must be 6 years old on or before September 30, 2010.  Please check birth certificates to verify birth dates.

 Monday, July 6 - Aug 9   Belle Chasse High & Belle Chasse Middle
 8:00 -- 1:30 Monday - Thursday
 Monday, July 26, 2009   Belle Chasse Primary

  • Certified birth certificate
  •  3 proofs of residency showing physical address
    • Electric Bill, Gas Bill, Cable Bill, Parish Water Bill, Lease Agreement, Mortgage Agreement, Homestead Exemption, Land Line Phone Bill
    • NOT EXCEPTED: P. O. Box Addresses, Credit Card Bills, Driver's License, Car Registration, Voter Registration, Insurance Documents
  • Up-to-date immunization record
  • Social security card (student and parent)
  • Custody/legal documents (if applicable)
  • Record indicating grade placement (if applicable)
  • Final Report Card
  • LEAL Scores (5th & 9th Grade Students)
  • Copy of Home Study application (if applicable)
  • Medicaid number (if applicable)
  • Parent's ID

All entering 6th grade students must have the required immunizations to begin school - this is a new state law requirement.

National Board Certification

Cherie Abadie, School Social Worker, recently received recognition from the Plaquemines Parish School Board for attaining National Boardd Certification as a School Social Worker in the Plaquemines Parish Schools.  Others receiving National Board Certification wer Courtney Prince and Shilo Mailhos, both Speech Language Pathologists.

BCHS Senior Receives George Washington Medal

Kayla ReedIn her junior year at Belle Chasse High School, Kayla Reed, a student in Doug Schilling's American History class, entered the local Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge Essay Contest.  She was one of three students to win the contest.  These three students won a trip to Philadelphia to meet other students from around the country.  Over the summer, the national committee meets and reads the essays.  In her senior year, Kayla was announced as a national essay winner.  She was presented the George Washington Medal at the Freedoms Foundation luncheon on Wednesday, May 12, 2010.  This is the second year in a row that Belle Chasse High School has had a national winner.  Congratulations Kayla and BCHS!
